The Recreation Center was built in 1954 by the City of San Diego, and dedicated in 1975. The Recreation Centers has outdoor basketball courts, tennis courts, a multipurpose athletic field, a sand lot, an indoor gym used for basketball and volleyball, meeting rooms, a weight room, and a kitchen. Located at the western end of Tourmaline Street, the Tourmaline Surf Park is situated at the foot of the Pacific Ocean. The Surf Park sits just north of Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach, and just south of the community of La Jolla. As its name implies, the Surf Park is one of the most popular surfing areas in Pacific Beach, San Diego. The Surf Park contains a grassy area to relax and enjoy, picnic tables, barbecue grills, and the opportunity to park right at the beach. The limited parking lot is usually full due to the number of surfers and sailboarders that use the park. Don’t be surprised if you see the same people using the park and surfing the waves day-after-day. The park also has restrooms and showers.

Kate Sessions Park is located in the north part of Pacific Beach where Beryl Street meets Lamont Street. Kate Sessions Park has a large grassy area to relax, play sports or have a picnic, and a children’s playground with swings and slides. The park offers a specular view of Mission Bay, Ocean Beach, and University City. Alcohol consumption is still allowed in the park during the day. There are free concerts in the park during the summer. There is a free parking lot in the park, but space is limited.

Fanuel Park is located at the southern end of Fanuel Street where it intersects with La Palma Street in Pacific Beach. Fanuel Park has a grassy area to relax, play sports or have a picnic, a children’s playground with swings and slides, and sits at the foot of Sail Bay, which offers many opportunities for water-sports enthusiasts. There is also a bike and walking path that passes right through Fanuel Park, which provides easy access to all parts of Pacific Beach. There is a free parking lot next to the park, but space is limited.
